Oral History Program

Austin’s stories, in their own words

Since 2016, our Oral History Program has captured more than 150 unique stories, preserving the voices and experiences that have shaped our community.

Austin’s voices

From lifelong Austinites to recent changemakers, these interviews tell the story of our city’s past, present and future.

Working alongside the Austin History Center, we record video interviews with Austinites and transcribe them. The recordings and transcripts go to the Austin History Center, where historians, researchers and authors can draw on them for years to come.

With plans to expand it and create a dedicated space for interviews, we continue to safeguard Austin’s history for generations to come.

Giving

Help preserve Austin’s history

Every gift keeps the History Center’s programs, preservation and oral histories going. Monthly donors make up the Giving Circle, and their steady support is what sustains this work.
