The Austin History Center Association (AHCA) is excited to recognize Jennifer Chenoweth’s leadership since joining as Division Manager of the Austin History Center (AHC) in November. She hit the ground running, overseeing the complex move of the archives from the AHC’s historic 1933 building to the newly renovated Faulk building. Managing layout planning, coordinating with construction crews, and ensuring the protection of priceless historical artifacts, she has been instrumental in this once-in-a-generation relocation.

Jennifer Chenoweth, Division Manager, Austin History Center

Chenoweth is well known for her work at the Oakwood Cemetery Chapel, where she led a groundbreaking project to digitally map Austin’s oldest burial site using 3D modeling and LiDAR technology. Her work highlighted the unmarked graves in the “Historic Colored Grounds,” ensuring the stories of those buried there—many from historically marginalized communities—are preserved. Through oral histories and descendant engagement, she expanded Austin’s archival record, bringing voices from the past into the present.

Beyond her work in historic preservation, Chenoweth has used visual art as a tool for community connection. Her XYZ Atlas project mapped Austinites’ experiences and emotions, blending data and storytelling to reflect the city’s cultural fabric. With a career rooted in creativity, history, and civic engagement, she is uniquely positioned to lead the Austin History Center into its next chapter.

AHCA has long collaborated with AHC staff to expand and enhance Austin’s historical preservation efforts. Our partnership is central to our mission, and under Jennifer’s leadership, we look forward to continuing this dynamic work—building on our shared vision for exhibits, archival access, and the planned expansion of the Faulk and AHC campus.

Please join us in welcoming Jennifer Chenoweth to the Austin History Center. We are excited for what’s ahead!
