After seven years of dedicated service as the Director of the Austin Public Library (APL), Roosevelt Weeks has retired from his position. During his tenure, Weeks led the library system with bold ideas and integrity, significantly enhancing its services and community engagement.

Weeks’ career in library leadership spans over two decades. Before his role in Austin, he served as Deputy Director and Chief of Staff at the Houston Public Library, as well as Chief Technology Officer. His commitment to improving technology, literacy, and education has been a hallmark of his career. In recognition of his contributions, Weeks was named Texas Librarian of the Year by the Texas Library Association in 2023 and received the University of North Texas Outstanding Alumni Award the same year.
The Austin History Center Association (AHCA) had the privilege of collaborating with Roosevelt Weeks during the development of the AHCA – City of Austin Partnership Agreement. This agreement lays the foundation for significant fundraising efforts by the association, aimed at enhancing exhibits and expanding the campus. Weeks’ leadership and vision were instrumental in shaping this partnership, and we are grateful for his support and dedication to preserving Austin’s rich history.

Weeks has assumed the role of Library Director for the Fort Bend County Libraries system, where he continues to apply his extensive experience and passion for library services. The AHCA wishes him all the best in this new chapter.
Following Weeks’ departure, Hannah Terrell has stepped into the role of Interim Director of Libraries for APL. Terrell brings 20 years of library experience, both in school and public libraries, and has been with APL for the last three years. Her leadership and commitment to community engagement make her well-suited to continue the initiatives set forth by her predecessors.
AHCA looks forward to continuing our collaborative efforts with Interim Director Terrell. We are confident that, under her guidance, the partnership between AHCA and APL will flourish, leading to the successful realization of our shared vision for enriching the community’s access to Austin’s historical treasures.
